I find this whole thing completely ridiculous.

They need to bribe people to attend their open house.

They are using a Heatid representative to present on the success of the model - even though they have had 2 months of school, of which many weeks were off for chaggim and hurricane.

With that said, I just looked at their slideshow and it is impressive. The most notable difference is that they didn't need to put down any of the other surrounding schools in the process, like heatid did ( "junk fees, calendar etc)
guest - did he'atid mention other schools by name (as in Noam charges this much for a junk fee, etc) or did they merely highlight the differences with other local schools that would be of interest and attract parents. please explain why that is putitng down other schools?
They did not do it by name, but they did do a side by side comparison of "junk fee" vs heatid. There was no reason for that. Saying $7900 all in, basically says the same thing without being negative towards anyone else. I think you can agree with that.

They did the same thing with the calendar - funny how they ended up being closed for succot anyway.
i actually dont agree - but to each his own. The difference in fees is a major difference between the He'atid and other schools. Some schools like YNJ have now consolidated fees as they also see that parents disliked all the junk fees. Every school should be able to highlight what it considers its selling points.
He'atid is closed for sukkot but still has the most days of any (yeshiva day) school in town - even more than any school that was open on sukkos.
By the way, I agree that the raffle is silly. Regarding having a He'atid representative speak about the success of the school - it is true that the school cannot speak about a year of academics or its graduates - but as a start up school, certainly He'atid has had success in raising money, hiring a principal, hiring teachers and opening its doors in a timely fashion, and implementing its blended learning programs (not to mention that most parents sending are extremely happy so far). They are also currently working on enrollment for next year. So in everything He'atid has set out to do, so far, it has been a success and certainly another start up school with a similar philosphy and learning style could learn from it and gain chizzuk.
Heatid should focus on selling their merits and I hope that is what they focus on at this year's open house. I had an awkward encounter with a heatid board member. They made friendly chit chat with me and we spoke about schools I was considering, they didn't try to sell me on heatid, as I was expecting. They spoke so horribly negatively about every other school. It was so off-putting. I was a captive audience to hear all the merits of an heatid education, and instead I got what was wrong with every other school. shame shame.
Guest - come on - are you really engaging in constructive conversation about schools? Citing some annonymous board member and some likely didnt happen conversation? i too could talk about my conversation wiht a legacy board member and how he put down He'atid. shame. shame. let's move on.
Sora, do you get paid commission for every He'Atid comment you post? School said why are yeshivot closed on sukkot and they were closed as well...it is what it is.

I find this "school raffle of tuition" for just showing up at open house inappropriate. Basically, they are announcing that we now need to raise another 10k to subsidize this child's tuition in full, as most are just partially subsidized by fundraising. Wow.

Americans just want "handouts".
I do get commission! do you get commission for every time you bash he'atid?
i dont think anyone on this blog so far has disagreed with the inappropriateness of the lottery (probably because only you and i so far have commented on it and we sem to agree). But your comments on the subsidizing are silly - aside from the major difference that this school is doing the lottery to bring people to its open house, other BC schools do tuition lotteries - in fact there was just one at the YNJ /Sinai auction.

The president of YU was asked what he thought of the competing institution YCT (Chovevi Torah) . He said" I'm fine with YCT except you shouldn't make a living out of bashing Yeshiva University" Sell your own institution by what it has to offer. Don't tell everyone how inefficient all other day schools are. Every institution has its issues. How we conduct ourselves makes a huge difference. Our behavior carries over to our children whom we often forget is the center of who we are trying to educate.
