Florida Adds Another Hebrew Charter

Julie Weiner reports in the Jewish Week about another Ben Gamla school opening in Florida.  This one, in Boynton, is the fourth  Ben Gamla school & the 7th  Hebrew Charter in the  US.  As usual there are various special interests trying to stop it.

How do we get these people to come  up to Bergen County to show us how its done?

the article says 80% of the students are Jewish. i would be curious to know what percent of that is orthodox. i am also curious if the classes are unofficially split between the jewish and non-jewish kids. it really sounds like it can be a huge winner if a significant portion of orthodox sign up. the fear of being with non-jews is already minimal, so it is tough to keep on arguing to not even allow your kids in a class with other jews (albeit maybe not adhering to the same religious standards). it is surprising the orthodox communities in florida haven't mustered enough parents to go en mass.

it is very hard to keep up with the fast pace of this blog. Can someone post "cliff notes"
Any work on SACS?
Haven't been solicited for a donation by He'Atid in over a month...wow.
Has anyone learned anything about SACS?
Sacs,

Of course not. Their website hasn't been updated in a year. See my previous post on that:

No one responded to it with any information. I don't know who the people are that voted on the poll that think it will open this September. I wish they would share with us why they think it will.
Also see my original post on SACS:

any news on SACS
Call Peter Deutsch, he might help.
Miami,

I find it rather disturbing that there has been no public communications. Many parents are very interested, just like parents down in Florida. However, we are so confused with the way this entire program is being handled.
When Ben Gamla opened, their was teeth gnashing, complaining, then saying it will never open...

Then silence, what was criticized as a "desperate recruiting effort" going around with open houses to get applications...

Then they opened, had some short classes and needed to consolidate, and people insisted it would fail...

Right or wrong, these things don't operate the way you expect them to coming from a private school. They need applicants, they have a potential list from last year, but they don't need you to be comfortable. They need to get their doors open with state approval, not run out of cash in year one, and operate going forward.

They don't cater to you the way a private school does.
Remember, with a private school, as a parent, you are a customer.

With a charter school, where the state pays, as a parent, you are not a customer, you are the product.

Understand that, you'll understand the communication difference.
